Description of La Sierra Programs

ADULT EDUCATION is a program based on direct classroom instruction and offered to those adults who desire to obtain a high school diploma and/or prepare for the GED. Instruction for the GED diploma is also offered in Spanish.

INDEPENDENT STUDY is a voluntary learning experience for students ages 16 and over which provides high school instruction via mandatory weekly appointments with an instructor. These students are completing their high school diplomas.

OPPORTUNITY offers students (ages 14 and 15) who have had habitual truancy, irregular attendance, insubordinate or disorderly behavior, or academic failure a chance to improve basic skills, attendance and social attitudes. The goal for these students is to return to a comprehensive high school.

The ELD (ESL) program offers high school classes to develop life skills and English language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Level-appropriate classes are designed to improve students’ English proficiency as well as to transition them to other La Sierra programs.

TAPP provides classroom structure for traditional instruction or independent study classes for pregnant or parenting students. In addition, on-site childcare is available and parenting skills are taught to the students enrolled in the Opportunity component of the TAPP program.
