| History of La Sierra High |
Twenty-eight years ago, La Sierra High School had its beginnings as an alternative high school program. Prior to becoming a high school, it was called Alternative and Continuing Education (ACE) and was a program within the Fullerton Joint Union High School District (FJUHSD). ACE consisted of the following components: ELD classes; Independent Study; Student Outreach Services (SOS); and the Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting Program (TAPP). Due to increasing enrollment, and in order to more effectively address the needs of a diverse student population in alternative programs, ACE became a high school in June 1996.
An integral part of the FJUHSD, La Sierra high School has a central office located at 201 W. Amerige Avenue in downtown Fullerton with various satellite campuses serving the communities of Buena Park, Fullerton, and La Habra. In June 1999, La Sierra High School received a full six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
Since 1977, La Sierra has served the needs of a diverse population, and today offers six specialized programs. They include:
•Academic Placement, Behavior Modification, Community Service (ABC)
•Adult Education
•Independent Study
•Opportunity
•English Language Development (ELD)
•Teenage Pregnancy and Parenting Program (TAPP)
The goals of La Sierra High School are multifaceted; where possible for those students who are of high school age, the goal is to prepare them to return to the comprehensive high school. For those who do not fall into the first category, the goal is to earn a high school diploma through La Sierra.
