TOPIC: General Comments (
SUMMARY: NEW SITE: La Sierra opened a new ELD site at
SITE CLOSED: Due to
low enrollment, the evening ELD class at
SITE
MAIL: Sites are to check their mailboxes at La Sierra at least once a week.
Larger sites may need to empty their mailboxes more often. Lead teachers were asked to make sure that
this is done to avoid clutter around the mailbox area and to receive
information in a timely manner.
COMPUTER LAB: Teachers must have lesson plans for classes
using the computer lab. Teachers are also to remain in the computer lab with
their classes at all times.
ATTENDANCE: As expected, due to spring
break, our attendance has decreased as has our
SITE MEETINGS: Lead teachers are expected to hold a site
staff meeting shortly after the lead teacher meeting in order to disseminate
information in a timely manner.
TOPIC: CTEL (
SUMMARY: The California Teacher of English Learners (CTEL) has replaced the CLAD
as the test that is now required for teachers of English Learners. Marwan
distributed copies of the District’s information packet about CTEL Training for NCLB and EL Authorization.
Teachers who passed
the CLAD were reminded to register their certificate with the California
Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). Questions about the CLAD or CTEL

TOPIC: Transcript Evaluations/ Class Presentations (
SUMMARY: TRANSCRIPTS: Jack reminded teachers that all transcripts submitted
to him for evaluation must have a cover sheet. Following this procedure ensures
that student transcripts will be evaluated in a timely manner.
CLASS
PRESENTATIONS: Jack’s
presentations are geared for students in ELD 2/3 or ELD 3. Interested teachers of those classes should
contact Jack ASAP to schedule a
presentation.
TOPIC: Newsletter/ Curriculum Update (
SUMMARY: NEWSLETTER: Barbara plans on publishing a spring issue of the Post. Teachers should submit information
for that issue to Barbara by May 5, 2006. Information can be submitted via
email, fax or left in Barbara’s mailbox at La Sierra.
CURRICULUM: Barbara compiled a curriculum binder for the Register’s Civil War poetry unit. Lesson
plans and activities for this unit are geared for upper-level ELD students. Interested
teachers can get the materials from Josephine Roberts.
TOPIC: Civics Lesson—Environmental Awareness (Connie Cloak)
SUMMARY: Guest speaker, Connie Cloak, presented and distributed ready-made
lesson plans for an environmental awareness unit, The Family Car, which focuses on the importance of recycling used
oil. Activities were designed specifically for ELD classes and for students
that have resided in the

that this lesson can be taught by ALL teachers and is not limited to just those who
selected the EL Civics objective focusing on the environment.
TOPIC: Civics Program Update (Laurie McGee))
SUMMARY: Laurie reminded teachers that the student assessment needs surveys will
be done in the next few weeks. Video check-out will be available to teachers
while Laurie is on maternity leave. Video check-out procedures are to be
followed as usual. Assessment is also to be turned in as usual.
TOPIC: ELD Lesson—State Reports (Laurie Ruhnke)
SUMMARY: Laurie shared a research project that she created for her
intermediate/advanced level ELD students. The project involves having students
use the Internet to research state information and using PowerPoint to create a
presentation to share with classmates. She also distributed copies of her
lesson plans for this project.
TOPIC: Instructional Materials (
SUMMARY: Marwan distributed CDs containing copies of various student
certificates, student needs forms, phone logs, and a sample PowerPoint
flashcard presentation. Teachers are encouraged to use simple PowerPoint
presentations with their students.
Student copies of Quick Word were handed out. Other Quick series sample copies were also
distributed. Student copies of the other Quick
series books can be order from Marwan.
The next lead teachers’ meeting is
thursday, May 11, 2006.
The meetings begin promptly at 3:30 p.m.
Teachers are expected to be on time.
